about

It hit me this Fall as I was working on a new project to fight cancer that one of my favorite projects "Tragedies & Miracles" is going on ten years in 2022.

Originally released June 26, 2012, this project is my PET SOUNDS. Not only did it seem like a dream come true to work with one of my musical heroes and friends in the biz (the late great Rick Elias), but it was the first time I worked on a project of songs that I envisioned being the work of others as I wrote them. I was imagining the Ragamuffin Band sound on each of these songs that I wrote. I never imagined they would make it past a demo cassette on my book shelf. So you can imagine my shock when discussing the project over coffee with Rick Elias and he says, "I am getting together with the Rags for a rehearsal tonight and I can get some of those guys who played on our stuff to give us some Ragamuffin production." I was going to make a Ragamuffin album, something Rick referred to as an "earthy" sound.

In a June 26, 2012 press release for Assist News Services, Pick writes:

“I often performed these songs at my concerts, and people would come up to me afterwards and ask how they could get those songs, but I never got around to actually recording them. And every opportunity I had in the studio to do so was spent on new material. I knew this was my best material, and I needed the songs to have the right touch to them. I’ve been a longtime fan of Rich Mullins and A Ragamuffin Band, and I loved their sound. Many of these songs were based on the Ragamuffin songs. It was a unique sound so fitting to the messages of Mullins’ songs. And I felt I needed that sound for these particular songs.”

“The project came together three years ago when I met up with Rick Elias in Nashville,” said Pick. “We had been talking about doing a project for years. Both Rick and Rich Mullins were the founding members of A Ragamuffin Band. And I explained to Rick that the songs I had in mind were centered on global missions, and I needed his old sound for these songs. To my surprise, the day I got together with Rick to talk about the project was the same day he had his first reunion rehearsal with the Rags in ten years for some new concert dates. Rick (working as arranger and instrumentalist on the project) mentioned he could get the musicians needed for the project. And last summer, I started work on the project with Rick.”

For the anniversary edition, I dropped "Christmas In The World" and decided to add a track Rick and I worked on for this project but was dropped - plus an early version of another track.

This project is going to fight cancer. All proceeds go to the HealthWell Foundation to help cancer patients with financial assistance.
